Welcome aboard the MS Roald Amundsen!

I was so emotional as I stepped on board. I had to really fight back tears before they consumed me. Stepping on board meant it was really, my lifetime dream was about to happen. Nothing could get in the way. I'm here and I'm going!

People may have an image in their heads about the term expeditions to Antarctica and conjure up images from history books and documentaries of wooden ships, unsuitable clothing and preparation.  That is not expeditions of the 21st century.  This is tourist expeditions - think a cross between luxury cruise and purpose built environmentally friendly, science & nature focused ship and crew. It's expedition in the safest, environment focused, luxury way.

On board the cabins are modern, well equipped and comfortable. All mod cons and bottles of wine supplied for quite contemplation in your room.

The ship has 3 restaurants (1 for suite guests), a fabulous lounge area/bar, a science centre, lecture hall, expedition launch area, library/reading area, gym, spa, sauna and even a small infinity pool with 2 hot tubs.

The staff are wonderful.  Multicultural,  dedicated, and full of smiles.

Food so far has been delicious a good mix of buffet and a la carte.

Each passenger is given a water bottle made from plastics that have been fished out of the oceans. There are filtered water refills stations on every deck. We are also given an expedition jacket to keep.
