Thursday 20th November
Today we landed at Brown Station. This is a research station on the mainland continent of Antarctica. So far landings have been on islands so this will be first step onto the mainland. Brown Station is still in use, but is only manned from December though to February so we were able to go ashore.
Feels a real privilege to step foot onto the mainland.
It was my groups turn to land late in the day, but as i was camping tonight there wouldn't be enough turn around time, so was allowed to go ashore earlier.
There were lots of Gentoo penguin rookeries really close to the station.
The glaciers cliffs surrounding it were stunning and being able to clearly see the flow of ice running to the sea was spectacular.
There were lots of other birds here too and was nice to see the pale-faced sheathbill up really close.
It was a lovely walk here. We had to wait for penguins to go along their highways, keeping to the IAATO rules of 5m distance at all times.

It looks stunning and the bright red sheds against the tranquil backdrop of snow with the penguins
