After leaving Deception Island in Antarctica we have 2.5 days at sea crossing the Drake passage due North up to the Falklands.
Sea was rough again. Whilst winds weren't as strong as the first night, the swells were huge.
On board during sea days there were lots of lectures and science activities to get involved in.
Lectures I attended included:
Ice - how it is formed and it's properties
Volcanology of Deception Island
Key bird species of the Falklands
Geology - a walk through time and the stone used onboard
Navigation - solving the longtitude problem
Cloud observations - became a Nasa Citizen Scientist
Shackleton - Endurance expedition
History of the Falklands- long before 1982!
On Sunday 23rd I took part in a focus group with the guest scientist on board as I am part of her study. It was great to sit down with others and reflect on the impact Antarctica has had on us and whether HX lived up to the value set and reasons for choosing them.
On Monday 24th we also had a visit to the Bridge, where the 1st officer talked about how they navigate and sail on the expedition.
A good few days with a bit of time also for reflection and journalling.
